Overview

This document will guide you through the installation and activation of Microsoft Office for Mac 2011.

File Type

A change to the previous version of Microsoft's AutoUpdate utility caused updates to break in Office 2011 for OS X. A fix is ready for download. AutoUpdate 3.0.5 was installed with the last Office update a few days ago. Microsoft has backed off from the mess it made with a new version of AutoUpdate you can download now. The problem only happens if you're using both the Office 2016. When the Welcome to Office: Mac 2011 screen appears, select the option, Enter your purchased product key. Enter the product key from the retail package of Office for Mac 2011, and then click Activate. Save your Product ID information, click Continue, and then click Done. If prompted, install any updates. Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 offers a solid update to the Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the other members of the productivity suite. Though the latest package is still not on par with the Windows.

The downloaded IMG file contains the DMG file. DMG has all executable files contained within which should be used for installation.

Installation

Pre-Installation Instructions

Before installing Microsoft Office for Mac 2011:

1. Download the software to your computer.
   Note: Double-click the .IMG icon. A virtual drive opens displaying a .DMG file.

2. Locate the .IMG file you downloaded and copy it to your desktop.

3. Double-click the .IMG icon. A virtual drive opens displaying a .DMG file.

You are now ready to install your software.

To install Microsoft Office for Mac 2011:

1. Double-click the .DMG file. The Office Installer icon is displayed.
   

2. Double click the Office Installer icon. The Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 Installer launches.
   

3. Click the Continue button. The Software License Agreement window is displayed.
   

4. Read the license agreement and click the Continue button. The following window is displayed:‌
   

5. Click the Agree button.

6. Click the Continue button. The Installation Type window is displayed.
   

7. Click the Install button. The Installer will continue the installation process until you receive the following message:
   

8. Click the Close button. The following window is displayed:
   

9. Click the Open button. The Activation window is displayed.

You are now ready to activate your software.

Activating Office for Mac 2011

Product activation is required to use your software. You will need the product key.

After you have installed your software, the Welcome to Office: Mac window is displayed.

To activate Microsoft Office for Mac 2011:

1. Click the Enter your product key icon. The Software License Agreement is displayed.
   

2. Click the Continue button.

3. Enter your product key and then click the Activate
   

4. Click the Continue button. The activation process is complete.
   

You are now ready to start using your Office for Mac 2011 software.

BURNING A FILE ON TO A DISK

To burn a file onto a disk:

1. On your computer, insert the blank DVD disk into the DVD/CD ROM drive.

2. In the Applications folder, open the Utilities folder.

3. Click Disk Utility.
   

4. When the Disk Utility opens, the drives on your computer are displayed on the left side panel.
   

5. In the top left corner, click the Burn icon. The burning process begins.
   

6. Select the file that you want to burn. Usually, the file is in the Downloads folder.
   

7. In the bottom right corner, click the Burn button. A confirmation window is displayed.
   

8. Click the Burn button again. The burning of the disk begins. When the burning process is completed, the disk is ejected and the Disk Utility Progress window.
   

9. Click the OK button.

Copying files to a USB flash drive:

1. On your computer, insert the USB flash drive into the USB port.

2. Wait until an icon appears on the desktop with the name of the USB flash drive.

3. Click and drag the file you want to copy onto the USB flash drive. The files are copied and placed on the USB flash drive.

4. Right click the icon with the name of the USB flash drive and choose Eject. It is now safe to remove the device from the computer.

• Starting with Version 16.21, Microsoft Teams will be installed by default for new installations if you're using the Office suite install package. For more information, see Microsoft Teams installations on a Mac.

• Starting with the 16.17 release in September 2018, this information also applies to Office 2019 for Mac, which is a version of Office for Mac that’s available as a one-time purchase from a retail store or through a volume licensing agreement.
• The update history information for version 16.16 and earlier also applies to Office 2016 for Mac, which is also a version of Office for Mac that’s available as a one-time purchase. Older versions up to and including 16.16 can be activated with an Office 2016 for Mac volume license. You can’t activate version 16.17 or later with an Office 2016 for Mac volume license. Most current packages for Office for Mac

The following table lists the most current packages for the Office suite and for the individual applications. The Office suite includes all the individual applications, such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. All packages are 64-bit only. The build date is listed in parentheses, in a YYMMDD format, after the version number. The install package is used if you don't have the application already installed, while the update package is used to update an existing installation.
